Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator will need to move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform that houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket which is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These machinery offer an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is important to note that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
