History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. During 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. Currently, SMAG is the world's market leader, utilizing grabs for waste disposal, global cargo handling applications and agriculture.
