During 1928 within La Clayette, France, the company Potain was born. Since then, Potain has been the global leader in tower crane production. They are responsible for more than 100,000 cranes installed and sold all over the globe. Currently, the company makes over 60 models from different production facilities inside France, China, Portugal, Germany and Italy. The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes range from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes that are both higher and larger. These cranes range from 7.98 to 64 tons. Furthermore, these are the biggest special application cranes that are custom-made. These units provide a reach capacity of one hundred sixty tons.

Some of the main innovations with the company comprise the LLC range of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The growing reputation of the company has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are usually found on traditional construction sites, bridge building projects, power stations, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.

Manitowoc has 2 of their biggest manufacturing facilities in the USA. The Manitowoc manufacturing facility is situated within the state of Wisconsin. In this state, both the tower crane components and crawler cranes are constructed within the state of Pennsylvania in the Shady Grove plant. Here both boom trucks and mobile cranes are built. Regional offices are situated within Brazil and in Mexico. Moreover, the extensive dealer network located throughout Glendale and the USA offers support and coverage unrivalled by any other crane producer.
