There are healthy and safety guidelines governing the use of lift trucks. Any huge equipment, such as a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and should be used safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver has to carry out daily checks on the lift truck and more thorough checks each and every week and every month. The following inspections should be carried out on the lift truck:

Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on forklifts are key features which must be double and triple checked. A brake check is carried out with various pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be inspected at the same time.

The Tires - forklift tires are also key for the safe performance of the forklift truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be checked properly to ensure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the proper pressure.

Controller - To determine whether the system is in good working condition, the lift truck controller system needs to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any sign of problems should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift should not be utilized until the controller system has been fixed.

Steering Wheel - the driver should inspect the lift truck steering wheel in order to make certain the turning of the wheel is correct. Forklift safety depends on the steering wheel responding well and working precisely. There are various types of inspections that could be performed to determine the performance of the steering wheel.

Engine Oil - the engine oil needs to be checked by removing the dip stick from the lift truck engine. The dipstick will show the oil color and the oil level. The oil should be refilled if the level is very low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination happening.

Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be outfitted with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher has to be checked to ensure it would function correctly in the event of a fire. Various types of fire extinguisher should be checked in specific ways. Like for example, a dry chemical extinguisher needs to be shaken.
