For the majority of indoor applications, a forklift is operated with the use of cushioned tires which mean they are made out of solid rubber tires. The pneumatic type of tires is the perfect option for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires are common for heavy cargo and could be used on dirt roads and on asphalt surfaces.

Propane powered lift trucks are trusted to be safe for the most part and has a reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the engine or machine is not maintained or tuned up properly, then the propane powered engine can produce CO or carbon monoxide, along with other corrosive oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine which is not in optional running form could cause a similar situation. These gases which are emitted could be extremely noxious within incorrectly ventilated or confined spaces.

Compared to gasoline and diesel powered forklifts, propane models emit less harmful gases. Propane has a simple chemical structure. Because it is a gas, propane mixes really well with air, compared to gasoline or diesel and burns at a low temperature. Corrosive oxides of nitrogen created during propane combustion in the engine are a lot less than those emitted by a diesel or gas engine. Hence, a propane lift truck's engine normally lasts a lot longer than a diesel or gasoline powered forklift model.

With an IC engine, air is sucked into it from the surrounding area. This air is what makes the fuel burn. A 60 horse-power lift truck should breath in 5000 cubic feet of air per minute to be able to work. Prior to operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane forklift outside and allow it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions as they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or machinery and become less intoxicating when the equipment has had a chance to warm up.

Electric lift trucks are not utilized outside in the rain since it is feared the rain could damage the battery. A dangerous situation could occur since an electric forklift can short out because of rainwater getting in.

Propane lift trucks on the other hand work well in the rain. The propane is stored in sealed tanks which are positioned on the rear of the lift truck. This means there is no chance of a rainstorm interrupting a driver's work. Propane forklifts are extremely versatile and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Gasoline and diesel powered lift trucks can suffocate you accidentally with harmful gases if they are used indoors. A well maintained and properly tuned up lift truck is truly a great way to safely and effectively handle your loads.
